Educational Development
The Bay Area Houston Alumnae Chapter Educational Development Committee (EDC) develops programmatic content for the youth in our service area. Our EDC consists of the Educational Development Chair, Delta Gems Chairs and Delta Academy Chairs. This committee meets the 3rd Thursday of the month. The Bay Area Houston Alumnae Chapter conducts projects designed to address the community's concerns about our youth excellence in education therefore the Delta Youth Explosion (DYE) was created. DYE consists of an African American quiz bowl competition referred as Delta Youth Explosion Quiz bowl (DYEQ), conference workshops geared toward youth, a college fair, talent show, entrepreneurial showcase and lots of fun. The Delta Youth Explosion aims to develop a positive attitude towards academic excellence, develop a positive attitude towards self, and stimulate enthusiasm about Black History and educational development. The Delta Youth Explosion is a program designed to encourage our youth ages 11-18 to develop educational awareness, learn Black History, and promote competition and good sportsmanship using educational learning through service. The Delta Youth Explosion is open to all Delta Gems and Delta Academy members within the Southwestern region along with other youth groups. The purpose is to provide an educational medium for our Delta Gems and Delta Academy girls to realize the value of an education.
